Kemi,
Finnish Lapland
Get Directions →

Kemi is situated by the Bothnian Bay at the mouth of the river Kemijoki and is part of Finnish Lapland. Kemi has two claims to fame. Firstly, it is home to the world’s largest snow castle (reconstructed every year with different architecture). Kemi is also home to Sampo, a Finnish icebreaker ship which was designed to keep the shipping lanes free of ice. A small number of tourists are permitted to spend a day onboard Sampo as she crunches through ice up to 2 metres thick!
